Signs - Teeth indentation on th edge of the tongue indicates the malabsorption of nutrients-
- Deep line down the center of the tongue shows repressed emotions or nervous energy held on the spinal column
- Cracks or kinks in the center line show back problems.
- Bad breath shows low agni (digestive ability) or toxic accumulation; check intestine points on the tongue for root problem.

By compiling all this information one can quickly see the state of the digestive system. Often the general indications - such as many small cracks - equal a chronic vata imbalance, and are the most meaningful, as these give long-term indications of your overall past history. A cracked tongue, thick coatings, and strong colors (brown, red, white) all indicate an accumulation of humors over a period of time. Bumps or depressions also indicate chronic imbalances. In these instances, it is advised to visit an Ayurvedic practitioner, or if one is not available, a practioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These professionals can help start you on a program to correct a long standing disorder.
