Vata first collects in the colon (constipation), becomes disturbed (gas), fills the colon (pain, dryness), then moves up either to the small intestine or the lungs or both (variable pain, stiffness, constipation). Finally, this manifests as a disease in Western medicine (arthritis); namely the symptoms have become so stable and acute as to be classifiable. If the root is left untreated, then arthritis, nervous disorders, constipation, and other vata-related disease becomes acute and chronic.
